Another Successful Soccer School |
|
|

The World Cup Cymru
Soccer School held, by Holyhead Hotspur Peibio Youth, in
partnership with the Welsh Football Trust, at the Oval
at the end of July was a resounding success. Seventy
five boys and girls took part in the two day free event
which enjoyed blue skies and a feast of football.
On the back of
this summer's World Cup all the kids enjoyed emulating
their international heroes by taking part in the mini
World Cup tournament and honing their soccer skills in
the coaching sessions. Feedback from the kids and
parents alike has been excellent and thanks must go to
the Holyhead coaches who gave their spare time to
support this event.

Mark Owen; Hotspur’s Fun Football Co-ordinator said “by
organising football schools we coaches can help in the
development of these children. Football is an incredible
game and more and more children are playing in the park
or in their back gardens. By running football schools we
can structure the players’ development in a safe and
controlled environment. At our football school we had
seventy five boys and girls aged between 5 and 13 take
part in fun related football activities. The event was a
massive success; everybody behaved excellently and
respected the coaches. On day 2 of the school we had a
mini world cup tournament, Spain defeating Germany in
the final. Everybody who attended received a certificate
for their efforts.”

Holyhead Hotspur bring World Cup fever to
Wales |
|
|
Wales may have failed
to qualify for this year’s World Cup in South Africa,
but Holyhead Hotspur are getting into the spirit and
bringing a little football fever home.
Holyhead Hotspur, in
partnership with the Welsh Football Trust, will be
hosting a World Cup Cymru camp in the hope of finding
the Welsh football stars of tomorrow. The camp, taking
place 22nd & 23rd of July at The Oval Football Pitch,
will provide an opportunity for boys and girls of all
abilities to play the game in a safe, fun, learning
environment.

Football Association
of Wales accredited Holyhead Hotspur, follows the FAW’s
strict guidelines to ensure the highest levels of
coaching and child safeguarding are maintained.
Mark Owen Holyhead
Hotspur fun football Coordinator said: “To mark the
world’s greatest football tournament, we are inviting
players 5 to 13 years of age to come along free of
charge and share in the excitement of our very own World
Cup Cymru event. There will be certificates for all
participants at the end.
“I think it’s crucial
that we encourage these youngsters and nurture their
talent, and, who knows, they may one day bring the World
Cup to Wales!”

Tournament 2010 Latest ... Day 3 |
|
|
The
third and final day of the 2010 Holyhead Tournament saw
the older boys out in the bright and breezy conditions.
The
Under 14's had nine teams playing out a league format
with the top two playing a final. Llangoed had brought
along two teams, remarkably both making it to the final. Llangoed
AAA beating Llangoed XXX by a single goal.
The
six Under 16's teams battled it out; Bodedern beating
Glantraeth in one semi; and both Holyhead Hotspur
Peibio sides facing each other in the other semi. It
took a penalty shootout to separate the home sides. It
was a Bodedern v Holyhead Hotspur B final. Another
really close match, neither side scoring in normal time,
extra time or golden goal. Another penalty shootout.
Holyhead took the prize.
A
really good tournament. A big thank you to everyone who
helped out, either behind the scenes, officiating, in
the shop, burger van or helping out in whatever capacity.
Thank you to all the teams, coaches, parents and players
for taking part throughout this year's event. Hope to see
you all again next year.

Tournament 2010 Latest ... Day 2 |
|
|
Typical Anglesey weather on the second day. A range of
wet conditions form light drizzle to torrential
downpours; but it didn't dampen spirits one bit.
The Under
11's had two fairly competitive groups with a total of
12 teams scoring 68 goals throughout the course of the
day. Both Holyhead Hotspur teams reached the semi final
stages, but were knocked out by Amlwch Town and
Broughton Super Saints Athletic. A closely contested
final saw Broughton win through by a single goal.
There
were 61 goals scored by the 10 Under 12s teams.
It was Ysceifiog Wovles v Ysceifiog Foxes in one semi,
with Holyhead Hotspur Peibio v Amlwch Blues in the
other. The final saw Holyhead take on Ysceifiog Foxes, a
single headed Foxes goal from a corner separating the
teams in the end.
A
great day despite the weather. It's Under 14's and Under
16's next Saturday (12th June).

Tournament 2010 Latest ... Day 1 |
|
|
A
really successful first day. The Under 7's seemed to
have enjoyed their festival of football. Loads of
smiling kids going home clutching their medals, many
with painted faces and colourful hair.
A
total of 89 goals scored in the Under 9's age group.
The semi finals were contested by Holyhead Hotspur
Peibio B v Llandudno FC; and Amlwch Town v Bodedern A.
It was a really close final between Amlwch Town and
Llandudno FC. Llandudno wining through in the end with a
single extra time goal.
A
fantastic atmosphere played out in good spirits. Well
done everyone.

Coaches
for Next Season
The Club is
expanding to cope with the demand for places

not essential as training and support is
available. (Subject to CRB checks)

We need

and maintenance around the Oval. If you can
spare your time we will provide the equipment!

From field

Beanie hats,

Tournament
Helpers
The Holyhead
tournament will be held very soon (5th 6th and
12th June). We need helpers who can spare their
time, donate and collect raffle prizes. On each
of the three dates we need: parking marshals,
litter pickers, raffle sellers, score keepers,
referees and stall keepers. The more helpers the
smoother the tournaments run.

Good Ideas
Even if you
can’t spare your time you can still pitch-in

Easter Soccer School Success |
|
|

This season's
Fun Football Easter Soccer School was another resounding
success. With almost 60 children attending the three day
event, the clouds and rain just about held off on the
first day, but the last two days were played out in
glorious sunshine.
The children were
split up into four teams (Argentina, Brazil, Germany and
Spain) and competed in a mini football tournament and
quizzes. Spain were the overall winners, but everyone
went home with a trophy and certificate for their
efforts.
Another three day
Soccer School will be held in the October week school
holidays. Please contact our
Fun Football Co-ordinator if you would like
to reserve an early place for your child.

FAW /
McDonald’s Silver Accreditation |
|
|
It
has been confirmed that Holyhead Hotspur Peibio Youth has
achieved silver accreditation through the FAW / McDonald’s
Club Accreditation scheme.
This award comes in
recognition of the standards that the Club has reached as
an organisation in relation to its administration and
structure and for placing the safety,
welfare and enjoyment of players at the centre of the
Club’s philosophy and constitution.
All persons involved
with the Club who have access to children and young people
participate in the FAW national
CRB programme. This means that all coaches and managers
are formally checked by the Criminal Records
Bureau before
they are allowed access to children. All coaches must
complete the Football Leaders Award and FAW Emergency Aid
Award (or equivalent First Aid Award) as a minimum
requirement. They are actively encouraged by the Club to
attend FAW Child Protection & Welfare Courses as well as
attaining further coaching qualifications.
Dylan Edwards,
Hotspur’s Youth Secretary and Under 7’s coach said:
“Running a junior football club like Holyhead Hotspur
Peibio can be very challenging and requires a lot of
dedication and hard work from everyone involved. We are
particularly lucky at Holyhead, because we have a very
dedicated, experienced and motivated team of volunteers
and coaches who are constantly pushing the Club forward to
new heights. It’s not all about turning up on a weekend
and watching kids kicking a ball around a field. It’s also
about training schedules, organising, arranging kit and
equipment, attending meetings, courses, events and
fund-raising which can often be overlooked. It’s good to
receive recognition for this hard work by FAW /
McDonald’s, but the real reward comes from seeing the
development of players that have come through the ranks of
the Holyhead youth system.
He added: “2009 was a
good year for the Club. We were the first Club in Wales to
qualify for the Fun Football Accreditation; we had our
best trophy success of any previous season (7 in total);
Club funds were boosted by a number of successful events;
we had a team representing the Club at a tournament in
Wembley; and we achieved bronze accreditation status. 2010
already looks bright for Holyhead Hotspur Peibio; our Fun
Football Accreditation is being renewed by the FAW Trust
and in addition we are now a silver accredited club.”

Recognition for Youth Stalwart |
|
Holyhead’s
John Maguire has been made a life member of the
Anglesey Youth and Junior Football League.
John
began his involvement in junior football with
Holyhead Gwelfor in 1982 and has gone on to be a
coach and organiser for Holyhead Hotspur Peibio
Youth set-up for more than 20 years.
On his
inauguration, John was delighted to learn a new
under-12's cup is to be introduced by the league
in tribute to his good friend, the late Jimmy
Lawlor, who did so much for football in
Holyhead.
John
described it as "a fitting tribute to a person
who had a real passion for football.
"More
than anything he would have enjoyed to see
players progress to a senior level from within
the youth setup."
